Speech and language services are offered to our students as part of their
IEP (Individual Educational Plan). Depending upon the student’s needs, these
services may be offered in small groups, within the classroom, or in a
one-on-one setting. This is all discussed and decided upon in each student’s
annual IEP meeting. We are fortunate to have Laura Irving, MS, CCC as our
Speech and Language Pathologist here on site full time, and she comes to
us with over 20 years of experience, 15 years of which have been with our
students here at EHS. Her primary focus with all of our students is in helping
them achieve their highest possible level of communication skills in all
environments. If you have any questions regarding your student’s speech
services, she can be reached at (714) 962-1356, extension 4325, or you
may contact her via email using the link below. Assistive Technology
Augmentative Communication Services
Susan Christmas, M.S.
Assistive Technology (AT) and Alternative and Augmentative Communication
Services (AAC) are provided for students identified with needs in these areas.
AT consultation services involve the provision of high and low technology
devices and adaptations that facilitate participation in instruction and routine
living skills such as communication, environmental management, social
relationships and recreation. (Computer access, switch use and alternative
communication systems)
The AT specialist is responsible for assisting students, families, teachers and
support staff with the use, maintenance and repair of assistive and augmentative
communication devices.
The AT specialist conducts AT or AAC consultations to determine the need for
a full AT team evaluation and makes recommendations to the IEP team or the
teacher when appropriate.
